Introduction:
In the game of Boxing, if the Slugger Boxer is the brutal Warrior-Class, and the Pressure-Fighter/Swarmer is the swift Thief Class, then the Out-Boxer is by all means the crafty Mage class. The Out-Boxer is the long-ranged attacker that utilizes their superior arm length (and sometimes height) to keep their foes at a considerable distance.
By relying on their quick feet and their wits, an Out-Boxer can easily compensate for their lack of strength by strategically stacking up points in a fight as opposed knocking out their opponents.
Nonetheless, this particular style of boxing is nothing short of versatile and can smoothly transition into the likes of swarmer boxing or counter-boxing in a bout if a fighter is to perfect an equal trinity of speedy evasions, adequate power and precision.
Other Famous Out-Boxers Include the likes of:
The Greatest, Muhammad Ali
Amir Khan
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Chris Eubank
Oleksandr Usyk
Sugar Ray Leonard
The Advantages Of Being An Out-Boxer
Overview
As I always says, a Boxer will always gravitate towards a particular style of Boxing while in training and most of this all boils down to a boxer's: skill, speed, mental focus, IQ , tenacity, reach stamina, brawn and the capacity to endure physical punishment.
Out-Boxer will find themselves adopting a fencer-like modality and mentality; waiting for the opponent to strike first and move in before finding an opening in which to exploit, all while simultaneously capitalizing on their superior reach and keeping the enemy at a safe distance.
Generally, an Out-Boxer’s greatest weapons will be their superior speed, stamina, jabs and straight punches. Hencefourth, Out-Boxers are more likely to emerge victorious through means of decision instead of the usual K.O. win, and win through outlasting their opponent instead of out punching them.
Traditional and Strategically-sound, the Out-Boxer is the quintessential chess-master of the sport!
Who Are Out-Boxers Best Against?
An Out-Boxer is a great countermeasure against the likes of a Slugger. Fights with an Out-Boxer emerging victorious over the likes of the heavy-hitting Sluggers is due to the fact that Out-Boxers are able to out-stamina the sluggers, as opposed to out-muscle them!
[Authors Note: These articles do not set in stone the outcome of a fight and should never encourage complacency or discourage any practitioners of certain styles when in the ring. As a dangerous sport, all opponents (regardless of style or stance) are to be treated as equal a threat as the next and last, and only through proper training can one be truly prepared.]
The Disadvantages Of Being An Out-Boxer
Out-Boxer is at a disadvantage against the likes of a Swarmer, as they are the stark, polar opposite of everything a Swarmer epitomizes-The Swarmer wishes to keep tight, close-ranged pressure on their opponent through rapid combos in quick-succession, while the Out-Boxer values long-ranged, strategic strikes. Nonetheless, certain Swarmer’s have enough fortitude to withstand any punishment that attempts to distance them away from their opponent and press-on regardless.
Alas, it should be noted that an Out-Boxer’s greatest foundation and strength can very well be their most glaring weakness.
As I had mentioned earlier, one of the Out-Boxer’s main assets is their stamina-their longevity. Nonetheless, most of what keeps them afloat for 10-15 rounds is generated from a combination of their core and the springing motions of their legs.
As the old Boxing saying goes, “No abs, no legs; no legs, no fight.”
Crippling bodyblows to the rips, liver, abdomen etc are an Out-Boxer’s kryptonite thus compromising a fighter’s footwork as a result and greatly incapacitating their movement.
The Verdict
An Out-Boxer is a scientist at heart in the ring-The Fencer of the Boxing world, if you will. Light-footed and fiercely intelligent, an Out-Boxer is an all-time favorite to the more strategic fans of boxing and are are capable of downing even the most brawny slugger through guile, skill and I.Q. alone.
