Eros (concept) Eros (/ˈɪrɒs/ or /ˈɛrɒs/; Ancient Greek: ἔρως érōs "love" or "desire") is one of the four ancient Greco-Christian terms which can be rendered into English as "love".
Eros (in Freudian theory) the “life instinct.”
Introduction
Like all Italian fragrances, Versace evokes its charisma and culture from rudimental classic antiquity-Greek Mythology and Art, if you will. This has been evident since the moment founder Gianni Versace adopted the mythological being, known as Medusa, as the brand's Insignia.
One of the most-if not the most- prominent of fragrances produced by this brand is the aforementioned Versace Eros. The term "Eros" is derived from the Greek God of love, the son of Aphrodite, Goddess of beauty and fertility. The Versace Eros cologne markets itself by accentuating the image of masculine sensuality, bordering downright hedonism and lust.(Google images for Versace Eros and you’d be hard-pressed to not find adverts with some spice-boy looking bloke from Milan who looks like they put in 24/7 worth of dedication into maintaining a perfect pompadour and takes photos with his canon of a Sangria overlooking Santorini for Instagram).
Created by Aurelian Guichard of Givaudan, this fragrance radiates a fresh base of Madagascan Vanilla, Vetiver and Cedarwood; topped with notes of Italian Lemon and Green Apple; all of which are bridged by Tonka Beans and Geranium Flowers. I earnestly recommend wearing Versace Eros during Autumn (Fall) or Winter, especially during formal/evening events; in short, if the circumstances have you sporting a blazer and loafers or a leather jacket with jeans, then Versace Eros is your go-to, and works best in moderate and/or dryer climates.
Having lived in Florida, where the air itself is predominantly muggy and humid during the majority of the year (save a few weeks of December and January), the excess moisture in the air suppresses the initial Lemon/Green Apple notes and prevent these more fragile scents from dispersing into the air. Furthermore, that’s not the same as saying that wearing Versace Eros in a humid and hot area won’t smell at all. Instead, the excess moisture in the air leaves much to be desired and results in the cologne delivering a short-lived and watered-down Vanilla-base.
Costs
A standard 3.4 OZ/100 ML Eau De Toilette costs around £65.96 ($88) (although I personally recommend purchasing through the likes of FragranceX.com or FragranceNet.com since they can sell bottles at nearly half the aforementioned price), while a bottle of 1.7 OZ/50 ML comes down to £52 ($69). Furthermore, some retailers even sell the cologne in Mini-sized bottles to boot; for all my American readers, the likes of Sephora sells a 0.3 OZ spray bottle at $28.
Conclusion I’ve owned a bottle of Versace Eros since Christmas Day of 2015, accompanied by a complementary Shower Gel and toiletry bag, all of which were given to me in a gift box from the American Department Store Brand Macy’s.
It really wasn't until late 2018 when I had finally moved into New York that I decided to don this cologne, but again, that was due to the air in New York being drier and cooler as opposed to Florida's heavy humidity.
Nonetheless, this has always been a bottle that has garnered compliments and turned a lot of girl's heads no matter the occasion!
